It's Thanksgiving Already!

Fall Colors

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only 3 days away. My time here so far has just flown by. I guess it’s true that times flies when you’re having fun. This year for Thanksgiving we’ll be eating at the Berkeen’s. Drew and Adrienne are from New Orleans. Drew will be spending his Thanksgiving in the desert on deployment. I am making a sweet potato casserole. Marshmellows and all! I just hope it turns out OK! After we eat dinner there, we’re taking a dessert over to the Ertman’s. The Ertmans are from Utah and they have three little boys. Three very cute little boys.

The weather has turned cold. It’s raining a lot and the wind blows almost constantly. But it hasn’t been too bad. I’m enjoying having to shop for winter clothes. Just last Wednesday, we had a pretty bad wind storm. It knocked out power for almost 5 hours at our house and a lot longer at other people’s homes. I had to work that day - the power went out at noon, I went to work at 12:30. We stocked shelves in the dark (managers and supervisors held flashlights for us) for three hours before they let us go home. Ridiculous. And maybe a little against the law - or so I was told.

Trevor and I are going to get our first Christmas tree next week. I’m pretty excited. I’ve never had a real one!!!! There’s a tree farm on my way to work that we’re going to chop down our own!!! More like, Trevor will chop it down - you know I can’t chop no tree!!! Keep looking on Flickr for our pictures. I posted a few from this weekend. We invited some friends over and cooked some jambalaya for them. I think they all liked it. I only took a few pictures of the kids playing. I keep forgetting to take them!

Mr. & Mrs. Bates

Mr. & Mrs. Bates

In honor of Columbus Day, Trevor and I did a little exploring around the island! I had been wanting to go back to one of the beaches called Rosario Beach that we had gone to the last time I came up for a visit. Neither of us had been to the Deception Pass Park either, so we decided to go there and then go to Rosario. The Deception Pass Park was absolutely beautiful!!!! I’m so glad we went there first. We started at the North Beach first - hiking up a trail to what we thought might lead to the beach below the bridge. Half way up the trail we ran into two old ladies coming back down. They told us the trail led to the bridge, not under it - so we turned around and headed off the trail, into the woods. We got to the beach. It was soooo pretty!!!! We took a ton of pictures so check those out on Flickr.

We went through a couple of different trails and came out at a few beaches. We took our time and looked around and took as many pictures as we could. Then we headed over to Rosario Beach figuring we could hang out there and wait for the sun to set. It took near an hour for the sun to get far enough down for us to even look in its direction. The sun is so bright and gorgeous out here. Every sunset is something to pause for. We took a lot of pictures of the sun going down.

We came home, made some dinner and got back to watching Lost. Trevor borrowed the complete first season and we have been cracked out on it. I can’t wait to find out what’s on that island with them!!!! We’ve also been cracked out on cookies. We like to bake cookies at night and eat them right out of the oven with some cold delicious milk to wash them down. We’re really living the big life!
Trevor’s at work now. They’ve moved him to the night shift. He goes in at 10:30 and comes home around 7:30 in the morning. This means I have to sleep alone! I hate sleeping alone in this house! I keep hearing noises! Of course I blame everything on the neighbors. And I’m making Sativa sleep with me. Everynight.

It’s really starting to get COLD!!! Last night, Trevor forgot to turn the heat back on. (I usually turn it on every day and he comes behind me and turns it off) I froze my ass off. Even Sativa was cold. I woke up to find her snuggled up right next to me UNDER the covers. All of her was under there, even her head. She’s too cute.

I am finally starting to get out there and make more friends. When I first moved up, I kinda stuck close to home. I don't know if I was just scared to get out or if I was just happy with the stuff I had just started to figure out. It's all been very exciting moving up here, getting a new job, seeing new faces. I've been enjoying Trevor's company so much that I thought I couldn't fit anyone else in. I've opened up a little more at work.

They're finally starting to keep me in jewelry more often. Thank God! I am starting to hate those purses more and more....so much that I sigh a little every time I look at my own.

They have this policy about the merchandise - which is a good one - if the product isn't on the floor, the customer can't buy it. Therefore, all merchandise MUST be on the floor!!!! It doens't matter that there isn't enough room on the floor to hold all the merchandise, we still must put every box of handbags out there. That's what I've been doing with my time since getting the job. Shoving and smushing purses onto tiny shelves. So much smushing that if you (the customer) were to even look at one, it, plus the 20 others it's next to, will fall off. It's so frustrating to spend an hour shoving those ugly purses on these tiny shelves just to come back 20 minutres later and see the whole display a huge mess. I've been hit in the face with some really big ugly ones too. Even more frustrating.

The weather is turning quite chilly!!! Will I survive??? I think so - I bought my first coat last week. It's fleece lined and it's got a hood! AND it's waterproof!

Well - go check out the pictures on my Flickr page - I took some pictures of the house so y'all could see where we live. The pictures aren't great, but you get the idea.

Dock A

Dock A

This is the husband at the dock just before we boarded the Mystic Sea on a long boat trip to see some whales. The brochure showed these majestic whales popping up out of the water and swimming up next to the boat so we were pretty excited to take the ride. After about 3 hours of sailing the seas, the captain comes over and says they spotted some whales about 15 miles west of us. It'll take another 1 1/2 hours to get there - if they're still there by that time. We decide to push on - we really want to see the whales. After another 1 or so, he makes another announcement. We've spotted a bull at 2 o'clock!!!

There are about 6 other whale watching boats out there and we're all in a circle. These three whales have killed something - probably a porpoise. The surface a lot, but don't show a lot of themselves. They finish up eating and they swim away.

It wasn't all that exciting - they didn't make a big splash or anything and we barely saw the white part of them, but it was still cool. I had never been on a boat like that or even that far away from the shore.

Well, not much more exciting than that has been happenin. I'm still liking my job - they're still working me like a horse. I'm trying to get back into school and married life if still blissful.

The Job

Work is going well. They keep me so busy - time passes so quickly that I can't believe it's time to go already. I work work work from the time I get there until ten minutes after I'm supposed to leave. We had a "Fragrance Festival" this past week. Which means they moved a buttload of perfumes from one department into the main showcase of the whole store - the mall. A lot of "product" had to be scooped into buggies and placed neatly onto displays. Then just 5 days later, all dumped back into the buggies and moved back on the floor in the department. Actually, that was the fun part - besides the part where me and one other tiny girl moved a giant table full of perfume across the store - all my tiny little muscles were about to burst outta my arms!

I hate the handbags the most. It's constant straightening and shoving and rearranging ugly bags on little shelves. And they still have 50 boxes in the warehouse that have to go out on the shelves. I don't know where, but we're still pulling them out and shoving them in holes on shelves.

They put me in the jewelry department for two days. I really enjoyed that. It was a lot less stressful and there wasn't as much running around and disorganization. I liked it so much I requested to stay there. So, they're workin keeping me there full time. They'll make a jeweler outta me yet! I was proud of myself that last day I worked there - I showed a customer (we're not allowed to actually do it since we're not certified jewelers) how to change the battery out of his watch and it was correct!!!

The best part of the job is that I only have to work 20-25 hours a week. I'm a "flexible hire" which means I can get anywhere between 0-40 hours a week - there's no guarantee of hours, but I was told that I'd at least be getting 20 hours and the closer we get to the holidays, the more I'll be getting. I was also told that the holidays are exciting - with all the customers getting all roudy and demanding - I don't know what they're talking about - it doesn't sound fun.

So, things are going swell. I'm liking my job and I'm still in love with my husband. He even cooks for me and lets me sleep in late. How sweeeet!

B is for BATES!!

B is for

Trevor and I did a little sight seeing this weekend. We took a walk on one of the trails on base, then to one of the beaches near our house. It's definitely not a white sandy beach that you can lay out on, but it does have one thing - the ocean. I uploaded a few pictures to Flickr. I'm having trouble downsizing our photos to use on the internet. So, I can only upload a few every once in a while. Now that it's the beginning of September, I have an empty box on FLickr, so I uploaded a few.

I've got a job! I put in applications at all kinds of places around town. Nothing major, mostly grocery stores and little places like that. I ended up taking a job at the other base across town. I am now a sales clerk in the handbags/frangrances/cosmetics department at the Navy Exchange. It's a small job but they keep me busy from the time I clock in to the time I go home. I like it though. I don't have a full schedule so I still have time to play wifey - which I'm enjoying.

I found some rednecks!!! We were invited to a birthday barbecue last week and upon arrival saw these two men out in the street yelling and pushing each other. We watched for a few minutes then went inside to say hello. I lso met a guy from Louisiana - in the Monroe area. Trevor, him and me had a good time reminising about Louisiana things. Backroads, pastures, cows, country music. We ended that night sitting around the dining room table singing country songs. I wasn't singing, but most of the guys were. It brought me back home.

I'm off - I need to get dressed for work! Work work work!

WE'RE BIZZACK

Bridal Party
Originally uploaded by mamacats.
Well, we did it!!! The boy married me!!!! I couldn't have imagined a better time...actually I never was one to dream about my wedding growing up. I didn't really picture myself ever leaving my momma. But boys will do that to you. They make you fall in love with them and then they show you the world.

We've finally gotten all moved into our new apartment. Sativa is liking it here, I think. She freaks out sometimes, but for the most part, I think she's enjoying the new environment. She just can't understand why we won't let her outside all the time and why she can't get canned food everyday. I spoiled her a little during her first week here. I gave her can food every morning while I was making our coffee.

And I've gotta say.....married life is wonderful. After being separated for the past year and a half, it's nice to have Trevor all to myself.

I'm starting to make some friends. I was hesitant to leave my girls back home....and I miss them a lot but we're still in touch. It's been interesting to meet the other sailors' wives and find out about their lives. The most common question I've heard is "Where are you from?" I didn't think I had an accent but apparently I've got a pretty noticeable one.

I'm working on landing a job. I had one offer to work at a thrift shop, but I turned it down because they wanted me to work from 8 am to 4 pm. (pish on these hours!) I only turned it down because Trevor has to work from 2 pm to midnight and we'd only see each other for a few hours a day - either right after he got off work or right before I had to go to work. And that would totally defeat the point of me moving here so early before he has to go on DET. (DET=detachment) He'll be spending a month down in south California in about a month so we wanted to spend as much time together before he goes. So, right now, I'm just playing housewife, which I love. I'm even enjoying the cleaning and the cooking.

So, now I'm off to do some more cleaning. But don't worry! There shouldn't be much of a lapse in blogging now that we have our brand spanking new iMac - which I luuuv!
